13th Annual Arboretum Photographers Society Juried Show

Images of our beloved Minnesota Landscape Arboretum have never been more important. For many during this pandemic, the Arb has provided respite and renewal. The trees, plants and animals continue to do what they do best: heal, soothe and inspire us. In fact, research has discovered that being in nature or even viewing scenes of nature makes us feel better emotionally.
For this reason, it is with great excitement that we bring you this online platform on which to browse the 13th Annual Arboretum Photographers Society Juried images. These images were created during the past year and reflect the inspired work of all four stunning Minnesota seasons. The 27 works have been selected by judges Alec Johnson and Peter Wong and curated by an experienced panel.
This digital platform allows you to find comfort and revitalization in your own home. Enjoy the appreciation these artists have for the natural world. As you explore the show, spend time reflecting on the wonders of the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum and consider adding one of these lovely artworks to your collection. Judges
Alec Johnson
Alec Johnson is a full-time tenured professor of Entrepreneurship at the University of Saint Thomas in Saint Paul, MN. He is also a freelance architecture and motorcycle photographer, and award-winning fine art photographer. He was an exhibitor of the international juried show, “The Portrait” at Praxis Photo Arts Center December 2018. This past summer, 2018, he was accepted in the Minnesota State Fair Art Exhibition and received the Jennifer and William Oliver award for “unique, innovative and unusual” work of art. Alec is also a Singh Ray Filters Pro Photographer.
He regularly serves as judge for Minnesota area camera club competitions, and is a frequent guest speaker and workshop leader for numerous organizations throughout Minnesota and Western Wisconsin. Alec’s current photo project is titled, “Outside The Arena”, a series featuring the pre-competition ritual of rodeo riders. He will be starting a new project. shooting a series inside a foundry in Saint Paul, MN.
Alec is represented by the Sterling Art Gallery located in Silver City, New Mexico.
Peter Wong
Peter Wong and his work demonstrate a panorama of photographic talent spanning a diverse range of activities--from commercial, fine-art and travel photography to teaching, lecturing and guiding photo workshops. Peter spent four decades photographing commercially for advertising agencies and their clients, as well as specializing in photography for golf courses and resorts. Blending those experiences with new passions, Peter has in recent years entered the worlds of fine-art and travel photography, working as shooter, teacher and guide. Melding these genres gives Peter the opportunity not only to capture new experiences but also to share his knowledge and advance the skills of other enthusiasts.
The results go far beyond travel postcards with images that show real connections with the places visited, and a deep understanding of the hearts of other people, all communicated to appreciative audiences worldwide. Those audiences include publications that have awarded Peter with coveted assignments, along with award juries and the public at large. His work has appeared in local and regional competitions including the Minnesota State Fair, Academy of Golf Art Juried Show, Artistry at Bloomington Art Center, Hopkins Center for the Arts, Arts in Harmony International Show, Praxis Gallery, Golf Digest, Links Magazine and Golf Magazine.
During interludes from travel, Peter enjoys teaching photography at his local school district and has lectured on Art and Travel photography along with judging at camera clubs throughout the region. Latest judging was at the prestigious Minnesota State Fair Fine Art competition for the photography section. Peter also follows photographers on You Tube to learn from them and on some occasions join their workshops.
